AMUMARA DEVELOPMENT UNION – HOUSTON
CHAPTER

Brothers & Sisters:
In our February 25 correspondence leading
up to the 2002 National Convention in Houston, we (ADU – Houston/Dallas branch)
proposed that a membership benefit program should be enacted to benefit Amumara
indigenes and their families who reside here in the United States. Many of you
responded positively and asked us to provide more details on how to implement
such a program. We want to thank you
sincerely for your feedback and encouragement. Our Vice President, Mr. Collins
Olorondu, will discuss the program in detail during his Power-Point presentation
on the day of the Convention on Saturday, 25th May 2002.
Meanwhile, an outline of the
program is listed below to encourage further discussion on the subject matter.
We are asking for your support to ensure that the package is adopted into our Constitution
and implemented successfully. We are also asking Almighty God to bless us with
the wisdom to make the right decision for our families and our community.
Yours faithfully,
Collins C. Olorondu
Vice Chairman, ADU – Houston
Chapter
Background
It has been the will of God so far
that an Amumara person has not died here in the United States. But how do we
plan to help each other and our families if death should strike one of us
tomorrow? What if one of us looses a loved parent back home in Nigeria? How can
we help each other deal with the loss and costs of burial and travel? We need
each other – not only in death, but also in life. For example, many of us now
have high school and college-bound children. As a group of people, why can’t we
establish a scholarship program as a means to encourage our own children? The
primary goal for an Amumara Development Union membership benefit package is
designed to address these questions.
