Title: Summary Report on Health Mission to Nigeria (Year 2002)
Author: Felix A. Onyeise, MD, MS
Synopsis: Ignorance of facts about healthcare is the number one disease plaguing
our community back home. For instance, our loved ones still die from
various ailments such as hypertension and diabetes because many of the
medicines they take are adulterated with chalk and corn starch. Awareness
and information about high blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, HIV/AIDS,
etc., are lacking. To make the matter worse, some people still dye from treatable
illnesses due to cultural misconceptions and superstitions, as many people in
Amumara still believe that stroke is ‘Mbamuo’. What can we do? It is my belief that
Amumara people in USA have a responsibility to help improve the quality of our
people’s lives back home in Amumara. For example, we need donations of pharmaceuticals,
OTC medicines, and medical devices that can be used to screen for high blood pressure,
diabetes, and cholesterol. Sunicef Healthcare International (SHI), a not-for- profit
private healthcare system officially registered in Nigeria and USA, is ready to collaborate
with Amumara people in America and local healthcare facilities in Amumara (e.g., the Amumara
Women’s Healthcare Center) to properly manage and administer your donations. SHI operates in
a way that takes into consideration our cultural view of health and health care. It has different
services: Pharmaceutical and medical supplies, Laboratory services, Clinical services, Health care
professionals' continuing education and mentoring services, Consultancy and Research.

Title: Lack of Patriotism for Amumara
Author: Dr. Chidi Anyanwu, Ph. D, PE, Detroit, Michigan, USA
Synopsis: There is lack of patriotism by well-to-do Amumara indigenes at home.
Amumara has very educated and rich people who own mansions and other
landed properties in Amumara, Aba, Owerri, Umuahia, Lagos, Kaduna, and
Abuja, etc. They have expensive cars to drive to Amumara from their urban
dwellings. Yet, the infrastructures in Amumara - the buildings, the post
office, the schools, and the clinic – are dilapidated and have outlived
their design life. While there’s a long list of “Who Is Who In Amumara”,
our town continues to look more like an abandoned enclave. ADU-America
should therefore demand reform and a change, and let Amumara indigenes
know that the time has come when we should start to think globally.
Title: Memorandum Regarding the "Misplaced/Lost Checks"
Author: Members of ADU-Houston branch

the Financial Secretary of ADU (USA) wrote a letter dated 8/29/2002 to
inform the President of ADU (Houston branch) that the checks realized
during the event have been lost or misplaced. Pages one and two of ADU
Houston's reply to ADU Fin. Sec.'s letter are linked here.
Title: ADU America Constitution
Author: Constitution Draft Committee Members, ADU America
Synopsis: Amumara people recognize the need to build a community and to foster
the spirit of unity, progress and development. Recognizing that the
gift of community is a unique part of the family of Amumara, their
people living in America decided to use this document as a guide to
encourage and support the spirit of community and the challenge of service.
Title: Proposal for Membership Benefits
Author: Collins Olorondu, Vice Chairman of ADU-Houston branch
Synopsis: Proposal for a membership benefit program presented to ADU America during
the Annual Convention of Amumara people in Houston, Texas on May 25, 2002.
Due to time constraint, the proposal was not discussed. However, the need
for the program is still critical today as it was many months ago during
the Convention.
